Experience Small-Town Living in East Asheville

If you love the convenience and culture of Asheville but prefer a small-town feel, consider East Asheville. Many families choose to live in this area of Asheville, with its own library, schools, parks, and more. The popular Asheville area is a blend of updated bungalows, newer craftsman-style homes, and many shops and restaurants.

Convenient and Family-Friendly

East Asheville is conveniently located, only a 20-minute walk to downtown Asheville and a 15-20 minute drive to Black Mountain. However, it is also off the tourist map. So, it’s the perfect place to stay if you want to avoid the parking headaches and crowds you might experience in other parts of the city.

Plus, its restaurants are family-friendly, so it’s a great place to eat if you have children. Some local favorites include East Village Grille, Copper Crown, Pomodoros Greek & Italian Café – East, Ultimate Ice Cream Company, Okie Dokie’s, and Happy Jack’s Biscuits-n-Gravy.

Unlike West Asheville, it does have hotels, but you can also rent on VRBO or Airbnb if you prefer a home environment.

Animal lovers will enjoy being close to the WNC Nature Center. It boasts over 60 species of Southern Applachian wildlife, including black bears, red wolves, otters, and red pandas. In addition to the animals, it offers many educational programs, gem mining, and a nature play area.

Plus, enjoy an easy escape from the cares of life by jumping on the Blue Ridge Parkway, “America’s Favorite Drive,” by taking the entrance from U.S. Highway 70 east of town (at Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 382). This 469-mile, the nonstop recreational motor road is part of the U.S. National Park System and is managed by the National Park Service (NPS). It’s totally free to drive on… except for gas, of course! Spend your day relishing breathtaking mountain views, easy-to-difficult hiking trails, and plenty of places to stop for a picnic.
